Works on Paper
I often jot ideas down on paper before they become paintings. Working on paper is also a wonderful change from painting on canvas. It is immediate and final. It doesn’t take kindly to changes and redirection. It arrives quickly or not at all.
Order and Chaos is a series I worked on when my mother passed away. The speed of execution, the layering, and the darkness of the work reflected the turmoil I was going through at the time. I was searching for order among the chaos.
As part of a solo show in Portugal, I created 100 small works on paper in a series called Hide and Seek, which were exercises around the notion of layering, hidden things and the implied.
